Thinking Outside the Box - Disappointments for the One-Day Class
Hats off to Bro. Ray Darlington and Bro. John Waagen, the two Shrine-Masons who are trying to put on a one-day class. These brethren are doing something to try and increase membership in our lodges, and in the Shrine. I applaud them for not just sitting around and bellyaching as many are doing; they stepped forward and said "I will put on a one-day class."

Editorial - Handling Online Applications
The Rough Ashlar/Pierre Brute website, along with the Grand Lodge website, has brought in 148 requests to join freemasonry in the past 7 months. This is great news, or is it? When I heard that only 13 of this number have actually joined the craft something did not seem right to this old investigator. The interested parties fill out a preliminary application on the website and this is forwarded to the lodge secretary nearest the applicant's residence depending on his language request.

What I found exciting and worth discussing was his ideas to counter this problem. I suggest to anyone interested in Freemasonry and international Masonic news to the following address.

Message from the Imperial Potentate
Dear Friends,
I cannot express how honored and excited I am to lead the Shrine of North America and Shriners Hospitals for Children into the next Imperial Year. As many of you know, my theme for this year is A Strong Fraternity Carries Hope for the Future. I WANT nobles to constantly be reminded that the future of our philanthropy depends on the strength and growth of our fraternity.
During the year, I will stress that the Shrine fraternity will have great SUCCESS through Strength in numbers and the Sacrifice of all Nobles in their volunteer efforts and through their commitment to our hospitals and our fraternity. So, as I travel you will hear more on this subject.

A Warm Masonic Tale
It was a tale of Masonic men surrounding a campfire in the Old West, at night, discussing the Fraternity and its teachings. One old man listened patiently, and finally spoke up:

"I can tell you more about Masonry in a little example than some of the great Masonic philosophers can in books. Everybody stand up, and gather in a circle around the campfire."
